How to Enable Wi-Fi on the EVO

The HTC EVO 4G has a built-in wireless networking adapter that you can use to connect to wireless routers and access points and use the Internet as you would with a notebook computer. Although you may also have data service through your mobile phone carrier, using a wireless network to get online when possible can help you lower your usage and avoid the overage charges that can be applied when you exceed your service plan's data allotment.

  1. 1.

Push the "Home" button in the lower-left corner of the HTC EVO front panel, and then push the "Menu" button. The phone displays its main menu.

  2. 2.

Touch the "Settings" option on the screen, and then touch "Wireless & Networks."

  3. 3.

Touch "Wi-Fi" to place a check in the box and enable the HTC EVO's built-in wireless networking adapter.

  4. 4.

Touch the "Wi-Fi Settings" option. The HTC EVO begins scanning the area for signals from nearby wireless routers and displays the routers found on the screen.

  5. 5.

Touch the name of the router that you want to connect the HTC EVO to. If the name that you touch belongs to a router that uses an encryption key for security, type the encryption key using the keyboard on the bottom of the screen and then touch the "Connect" button.
