How to Turn on Touchpad Scroll

Though small business computers that operate from a desktop typically connect to a mouse, you may use a laptop touchpad when you work from other locations. The pad's lower and right edges enable you to scroll through long documents and Web pages. The lower edge scrolls horizontally, the right edge scrolls vertically and the two together handle the functions of a mouse's wheel or third button. If your pad does not appear to allow scrolling, turn the feature on through your driver settings.

  1. 1.

Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "mouse" into Search field and click "Mouse" in the search results to open the Mouse Properties window.

  2. 2.

    Click the "Device Settings" tab.

  3. 3.

    Click "Settings."

  4. 4.

Click "Scrolling" in the sidebar. Click "One-Finger Scrolling" if the option appears.

  5. 5.

Click the check boxes labeled "Enable vertical scrolling" and "Enable horizontal scrolling."

  6. 6.

Click "OK" in the two open windows to close them.
